This is a NEW softback book with 84 pages published in 2002 by Chaffcutter books.
The author, Frank Taylor has compiled a history of the Faversham Navigation, of the people who, and vessels which earned a living here, and of the products which arrived and were shipped via the once busy route to the sea.
This history has an appeal far beyond the locality, reflecting the evolution typical of many small ports through Victorian times up to the mid 20th century, and highlighting their importance to the community in terms of employment and prosperity. Grand plans for improvements, vested interests at loggerheads, and the inevitability that as ships got bigger the port would decline, all elements which are part of this fascinating narrative.
The book is well illustrated with colour and black and white photographs.
