Liverpool overhead railway was the first in the world to be operated by electric trains, automated signalling followed by colour light in 1922. Passengers on the railway varied from seaman, dockers and general visitors for the entire 63 year service prior to closure in 1956. Footage includes rolling stock some of which had wooden seats, carriage sheds, steam locomotives and also race traffic for Aintree in 1956. Also shown are men working on repairs, passengers and staff of the railway plus the stations.
