This book is a history of the paddle steamers Queen of Thanet and Queen of Kent. They are thought to be unique in that whilst many pleasure steamers were converted to minesweepers during the two World Wars, these vessels were built as minesweepers and converted to pleasure steamers in peacetime. Details of their careers in both World Wars, and also their subsequent operation for Red Funnel as Lorna Doone and Solent Queen, are also included.
£4 per book sold through this website will be donated to the Medway Queen Preservation Society, supporting the preservation of another iconic paddle steamer.
Please note that if you buy this book you are pre-ordering it - we are expecting it to arrive from the printers in mid September.
