This preowned hardback book with 295 pages of text with just a few black/white photos is in satisfactory condition, except that the pages are discoloured. It was published by Secker and Warburg in London in 1989. The text was written by Tom Pickard who for six months was writer in residence at Austin & Pickersgill shipyard in Sunderland.
This is a story of working men struggling to provide for their wives and families on appalling wages; men proud of the ships they build. It is proof of social and political schism - the North/South divide.
