The author, who knew the later paddle steamers well, has drawn on a range of sources, including the company's own archives and minute books. Interviews he recorded with former Cosen's employees have added an authenticity and colour which could not have achieved by the use of written records alone. Set against the changing economic and social background within which the Cosens traded, this fascinating history is illustrated by a selection of superb photographs, sailing bills and other ephemera.
