Firstly starting in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam which had a metre gauge system containing 5 routes dating back to 1902 with full closure occurring by 1990. We see footage from a visit made in 1987 which contains a tour of the system with one of the systems better tram cars number 14. Among the sights we glimpse at many of the other tram cars which are looking derelict and run down with much of the track work being in a very poor state. Next selection of footage is from a visit made in 1989 at which point only 3 of the routes remained. Track is seen to be in a further state of bad maintenance with worn frogs on the point work and overhead wiring sagging in many places. A trip is taken on routes 1 and 5 with brief views of a truncate route 4. Final footage from the system is of a visit made in 1990 with only the truncated route 4 being operated by a total of three tram cars. Feature of Thailand system is in the capital city of Bangkok which had trams in operation between 1893 and 1968. Footage of the system shows original trams in the 1920’s along with scenes made during visits between 1960 and 1968. DVD also features scenes of post closure of trolleybus system in Penang during 1961 and also from the same year trolleybuses working in Singapore.
